4 Simple Steps to Better Airflow in Charleston, SC
Charleston, SC stays humid all year, so having effective airflow is important. Proper airflow and ventilation help regulate the air quality in your home, and poor indoor air quality can contribute to health issues. Use the following four tips to ensure the airflow in your home is as good as possible.
1. Use the Fan in Your HVAC System
Did you know you can run the fan in your HVAC system without actually conditioning the air? This is a great way to promote healthy airflow throughout your house. Turn the thermostat fan setting to ‘on’ when you want to circulate the air for a while and then reset to ‘auto’ so it only comes on when your HVAC system is cooling or heating your home.
2. Get New Air Filters
When was the last time you had an HVAC contractor replace the air filters in your home? Air filters are one of the most important resources you have when it comes to promoting quality air. For most HVAC systems, replace your filter every three months or so, (whenever you can’t see through it anymore), but check your owner’s manual for manufacturer’s recommendations.
3. Don’t Block Your Vents
Check around your house to make sure the vents aren’t blocked by furniture or any other objects. Air can’t properly circulate throughout your house if the vents are blocked or have been accidentally closed.
4. Open Doors and Windows
Open the doors and windows a bit in your home from time to time when the weather permits. Nothing beats fresh air being cycled into a home’s ventilation system on a cool fall day. Of course, you don’t want to cycle in bad air, so check the outdoor air quality first.
